Children are not natural born “wait-ers,” and, as God’s children, we don’t wait well either.  We want what we want and we want it…yesterday. But often, that’s not the way it goes, with God. That’s because Father knows best.  He knows the great benefits to us that come through waiting on Him…waiting for His will to be done.  Think about it. Think about the results of God’s waiting process for Abraham and Sarah…and for their great-grandson, Joseph…and, especially, their greatest Descendant, Jesus, God’s only Son, Who, in the end, prayed, “Yet, Father, not My will, but Thy will be done.” So benefit from the practice of waiting on God and accepting His will.

Hebrews 10:36-39

36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. 37 FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. 38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM. 39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.

“The deepest spiritual lessons are not learned by [Jesus] letting us have our way in the end, but by His making us wait, bearing with us in love and patience until we are able honestly to pray what He taught His disciples to pray: ‘Thy will be done.’ Acceptance of whatever this means is the great victory of faith that overcomes the world.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot
