What will you do tonight when the polls close? (You will vote today if you haven’t already, right?) What will you do after the votes are tallied and the results are finally in? You’ll do what you were doing today, yesterday, and for days before that. You’ll pray. You’ll pray for them all…all those who were just elected, along with all those they’ll serve with. You’ll pray that God will grant to them all, His great mercy and grace to do the job that, not only the people have elected them to do…but to accomplish the purpose that God, Himself, placed them there to accomplish. You’ll pray that God will powerfully move them to serve His cause of righteousness. You’ll pray because you believe that God will hear, and God will answer. You’ll pray because it is His calling for you to pray. So…pray…now…and pray later.
Romans 13:1b
For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.
1 Timothy 2:1-3
1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.
James 5:16b
The effective prayer of a righteous person can accomplish much.
“It is a great privilege, as well as our responsibility, to pray for our government leaders.” ~ Billy Graham
