Envy. It’s a strong human emotion which arises in a person who becomes resentful of what another person has, or has accomplished. Envy is a sin, and we all battle with it from time to time. Envy can only be conquered by love…love for that other person who is being envied…selfless, Christ-like love. That kind of love wants the best for the other person and rejoices with them for what God is doing in their life. That kind of love can only be generated by the Holy Spirit who indwells the believer in Jesus. Let Him generate that love in you, and kick envy to the curb.
Romans 12:15a
Rejoice with those who rejoice.
Galatians 5:22-26 (NKJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us NOT become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
“Whenever you attempt a good work you will find other men doing the same kind of work, and probably doing it better. Envy them not.” ~ Henry Drummond
