Are we praying for our governmental leaders? Not just the ones we agree with…but all of them? Our God, who is sovereign over all, commands us to pray for them…to intercede for them…and to ask that His will be done through them. Let us, by faith, do as God has instructed us and trust Him for the results.

1 Timothy 2:1-3

1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.

James 5:16b

The effective prayer of a righteous person can accomplish much.

“We should take more seriously our responsibility to pray for the leaders of our government, that they will make wise decisions. Although we may suspect that some of the more disastrous decisions are evidence of God’s judgment, we do not know that. We do know God has instructed us to pray for leaders. Our duty, then, is to pray for wise decisions, [and to trust in God for the outcome, no matter what the decisions.]” ~ Jerry Bridges
